Equatorial Guinea’s President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has reportedly relieved 54-year-old Baltasar Engonga, a well-known economist, of his job as the Director General of the National Agency for Financial Investigation.
He appointed Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo to replace Engonga following the leaked sex scandal involving women who are public officials.

According to an Equitorial Guinea-based news outlet, Ahora EG, this development was announced on Thursday, November 7.
Another media outlet, Real Equatorial Guinea, reported the reasons the president sacked Engonga:
Irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct for the performance of public functions, as stated in Decree number 118/2024, dated November 4.”
Why Baltasar Engonga was sacked
Engonga was earlier arrested following allegations that he recorded over 400 explicit videos with the wives of Equatorial Guinea’s important personalities.
The videos were reportedly discovered during the sudden raid of his house by ANIF officials investigating Engonga for financial irregularities.
