The Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning following the untimely death of gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Oju Mi. She died on January 12, 2026, at the age of 46.
Her death was made public through a statement released on social media by gospel singer, Alayo Melody Singer Intl, and signed by a member of her family, Olawale Akinnaanu.

The gospel singer was said to have passed away at a Lagos hospital. The statement confirming her demise reads:
“With great sadness 💔😭, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye OMIJE OJUMI, who passed away on 12th January, 2026, at Lagos hospital, Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”

Pastor Segun Omole asks after Bunmi Akinnaanu’s health
A few days before her death was announced, Pastor Segun Omole cried out over the state of health of the ailing gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu. The pastor noted that the singer pleaded for funds for her ailing health, but after the money was raised, nothing was heard about her.
The pastor called out the singer’s family and colleagues to inform the general public of her health condition. He said they deserved to know since they contributed money for her to seek medical attention.
The pastor asked the relatives of the singer to open up to the public so they would know if there is a need for more money and prayers to be raised. He also challenged all gospel singers singing in Yoruba.

Bunmi Akinnaanu battles with her health
The gospel singer died a few months after she had called for prayers from people seeking a divine healing as she was battling a serious leg ailment in a video that went viral in October 2025 during a service at the G.F David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Even in her pains during a deliverance service, she sang sonorously with faith.

Born on November 19, 1979, Bunmi started singing at the age of 10. She later grew up to become a banker, a career she left, and pursued a full-time gospel music career.
She became popular after her hit song ‘Omije Ojumi’ became a household anthem in the Nigerian gospel music industry. She later went on to release several songs and albums over the years.
