The Nigerian film industry, popularly known as Nollywood, has been thrown into mourning with the passing of actress Ajara Lasisi, also known as Aunty Ajara.
The comic actress’s death was announced by her elder brother, Rilwan Lasisi, in a video shared on social media on Thursday, February 5, 2026. He noted that doctors confirmed Ajara’s passing to them during the wee hours of the day.

Rilwan, while appreciating all who donated money towards Ajara’s medical bills, begged people to stop donating money since the actress is dead.
Many of her colleagues and fans woke up to the shattering news.

Aunty Ajara calls for financial help before her death
Before her untimely death, there were calls for financial assistance for the diminutive stature actress to pay up medical bills incurred following an undisclosed ailment that left her hospitalised.
A viral video of Aunty Ajara, in a hospital with an oxygen mask, was shared by her colleagues on social media to solicit funds from her fans to offset her medical bills.
Because Aunty Ajara was fondly known for her comic roles, her colleagues had to inform her fans that the video was not from a movie set or a skit, but her true medical situation, in urgent need of money to save her.
In the video, the actress who was groaning in pain pleaded with her fans for help. Her account number was also shared.

In her lifetime, Aunty Ajara was known to light up everywhere she went. From movie set to social gathering, she never allowed her diminutive stature stopped her from being seen and heard. She was also a good dancer. Musicians sang her praises at every party she attended because of the vibes she always brought.

Aunty Ajara featured in many Yoruba films, among them was Wunmi Toriola’s Queen Lateefah. She was also a movie producer.
