Police deadly confrontation rescue of Adelabu’s sister and twins
Relief has finally come for the family of the former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu. Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued his sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, alive.
The victims originally went missing on June 3, 2026, while traveling to school in Ibadan. On Saturday evening, June 6, the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) executed a high-stakes, intelligence-led raid.
Operatives tracked the criminal syndicate to a hidden location, sparking a fierce confrontation. During the intense gun battle, police operatives neutralized two suspected kidnappers and recovered two rifles. Fortunately, the mother and her sons escaped the ordeal unharmed during a late-night rescue operation carried out around 7:30 pm.

Authorities immediately placed them under medical observation and care. Meanwhile, security agencies launched a massive manhunt for other syndicate members who fled the scene with gunshot wounds.

Inside the kidnappers’ luxury apartment hideout
Following the successful operation, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police visited the criminal hideout located in Lakoun, along the Ayegun-Olojuoro road in Ibadan. The police boss expressed surprise at the location, describing the hideout as a luxury flat situated within a populated residential premises.
He noted that the criminals purposely bring victims from town to hide them in plain sight. Shockingly, neighbours in the surrounding compound frequently went about their daily lives without reporting any suspicious conduct.
The Adelabu’s sister and her twins later told investigators that they could clearly hear activities from the adjacent compound but could not escape or call for help. The CP emphasised that technical intelligence entirely drove the successful rescue tracking.
Police address political rumours and Sunday Igboho’s involvement
Ultimately, the rescue operation of Adelabu’s sister and her twins has sparked intense public chatter across Oyo State. Reporters directly questioned the Commissioner of Police regarding rumours that the high-profile abduction was politically motivated. In response, the CP stated that official investigations are still actively ongoing.
Furthermore, journalists asked about widespread rumours claiming that popular Yoruba nation campaigner, Sunday Igboho, played a hand in the successful rescue operation. The Commissioner firmly dismissed the speculation, stating simply that he is not aware of any such involvement.
The police force concluded by praising the bravery of its tactical teams and reaffirming its total commitment to crushing criminal networks across Nigeria.
