Security forces rescue wife of late Major General Rabe Abubakar
Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information.
Mrs Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband by bandits on May 30, 2026. While the retired senior military officer tragically died in captivity, security forces continued efforts to secure his wife’s freedom.
The rescue followed an intensified search-and-rescue mission carried out by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA. According to military authorities, sustained offensive operations placed significant pressure on the criminal group responsible for the abduction.

As troops advanced on the bandits’ hideouts, security personnel established contact with the suspects at Tunga Village, creating an opportunity for a rescue operation.
Bandits flee as troops advance
Military authorities disclosed that the bandits opened fire during the encounter. In the process, the wife of Major General Rabe Abubakar sustained gunshot injuries before her captors abandoned her and fled the area.
The criminals reportedly escaped due to the overwhelming pressure mounted by advancing troops and ongoing military operations in the area.
Following her recovery, soldiers immediately evacuated Mrs Abubakar from the scene and transported her to a military medical facility for urgent treatment.
The successful operation marks another significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat banditry and rescue kidnapping victims across affected communities.
Military vows continued offensive against criminal groups
The Armed Forces of Nigeria confirmed that Mrs Abubakar is currently receiving medical attention and responding positively to treatment.
Military authorities also assured the public that every necessary measure is being taken to support her recovery and provide assistance to her family during this difficult period.
Furthermore, the military pledged to continue tracking those responsible for the abduction. Security forces vowed to intensify operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in troubled areas.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property across the country. They also stressed that ongoing operations would not only target bandits in Katsina State but would extend to other regions facing security threats.
