Galatasaray move to keep Victor Osimhen with captaincy
Galatasaray are making strong efforts to keep Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen despite growing interest from several European clubs.
The Turkish champions recently completed a permanent transfer worth €75 million after the Super Eagles forward impressed during his loan spell. The deal became the most expensive transfer in Turkish football history.
Osimhen rewarded the club’s confidence by helping Galatasaray win another Super Lig title and enjoy a successful UEFA Champions League campaign. His performances have once again attracted some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Although Atlético Madrid reportedly submitted a verbal offer worth €120 million, Galatasaray rejected the approach. Club officials have repeatedly stated that they have no intention of selling the Nigerian forward.

The club now appears ready to take further steps to convince Osimhen to remain in Istanbul.
Captaincy and number 9 shirt proposed
According to reports from Turkey, Galatasaray are considering appointing Osimhen as captain ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Head coach Okan Buruk reportedly supports the proposal. The manager has often praised the striker’s leadership qualities, work ethic and influence in the dressing room.
The move is also linked to the future of current captain Mauro Icardi. Should the Argentine leave this summer, Osimhen could inherit both the captaincy and the club’s famous No. 9 shirt.

The Nigerian international currently wears the No. 45 jersey because Icardi occupies the iconic number. Club officials now view Osimhen as the ideal player to lead the team on and off the pitch.
Previously, Osimhen declined the captain’s armband during a match out of respect for senior midfielder İlkay Gündoğan. However, Galatasaray now want to make his leadership role permanent.
Manchester United and Arsenal intensify pursuit
Meanwhile, interest from England continues to grow.
Manchester United reportedly consider Osimhen a priority signing as they seek to strengthen their attack. Reports suggest the club could spend between £110 million and £130 million to secure his services, Turkish football reports.
Arsenal are also strongly linked with the striker. Manager Mikel Arteta reportedly sees Osimhen as the missing piece needed to challenge for major honours.
Sporting director Andrea Berta is believed to have opened discussions with Galatasaray officials regarding a potential transfer. Arsenal could reportedly commit a financial package worth up to £200 million, including wages and bonuses.
Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have also been linked with the 27-year-old forward.
Despite the growing interest, Galatasaray remain determined to build their future around Osimhen and keep him at the centre of their sporting project.
