Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about one of the most talked-about moments from her daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding. Speaking during an interview with Morayo TV, the actress revealed why she deliberately involved her former husband in the ceremony despite their past differences.
According to her, the decision was about putting her daughter’s future above personal emotions and ensuring her marriage began on the right foundation.

Choosing her daughter’s happiness first
Iyabo explained that she intentionally put aside her personal feelings for the sake of her daughter. She said she wanted Priscilla to begin married life free from unresolved family conflicts.
The actress reflected on her own upbringing and admitted she was determined to prevent history from repeating itself.
“Every mistake my parents made, and every mistake I made, my children will not make.”
She added that making peace with the past was a sacrifice worth making.
Breaking unhealthy family patterns
During the interview, Iyabo said she believes families can consciously break negative cycles. She explained that many Africans recognise the importance of ending unhealthy generational patterns.
Speaking on The Morayo Show, the actress revealed she deliberately set aside years of personal grievances to protect her daughter’s future.
“There’s something called ancestral curses,” Iyabo explained, noting she wanted to break the cycle of marital separation in her own family. “Every mistake my parents made, that I have made, my children will not make it.”
“I had to put aside what I felt and clear her path.”
The actress said she wanted her daughter to enjoy a happier and healthier marriage. She described the decision as a personal price she willingly paid for Priscilla’s future.
“I have paid the price for her to succeed and be happy in her marriage.”
Why her ex-husband had to be present
Iyabo stressed that her former husband remains an important part of their daughter’s life. She noted that their failed marriage should never affect Priscilla’s relationship with her father.
“Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there?”
She added that her daughter was never responsible for the differences between her parents. According to Iyabo, excluding him would have been unfair.
Separating personal differences from parenthood
The Nollywood actress emphasised that disagreements between former partners should not interfere with their children’s lives.
She accepted responsibility for her own marital choices and insisted that the past belongs to the adults involved.
“Whatever happened between me and him has nothing to do with her.”
Iyabo’s remarks have drawn praise from many fans, who described her decision as mature and selfless.
Her story highlights the importance of co-parenting, forgiveness and placing children’s wellbeing above personal grievances.
“Sometimes, the greatest act of love is choosing peace over pride.”
