Ghana football community has been thrown into mourning over the death of 20-year-old young and promising footballer, Dominic Frimpong, who plied his trade at Berekum Chelsea.
Armed Robbers Attack Berekum Chelsea Team Bus
Frimpong, a winger for Berekum Chelsea, was shot during an armed robbery attack on the team’s bus.
Gunmen ambushed the players while they travelled back from a league fixture, targeting the vehicle in a shocking incident that has raised serious security concerns.

Frimpong Fatally Shot During Escape Attempt
Reports indicate that the attackers opened fire on the bus as the driver attempted to reverse and escape. During the chaos, a bullet struck the 20-year-old player in the head.
Emergency responders rushed him to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries. He remains the only reported casualty from the attack.
The attack took place along the Bibiani-Goaso highway as the team returned from a match against Samartex.
The violent ambush has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of football teams travelling across the country.
Ghana Football Association reacts to Frimpong’s death
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in a press statement on the death of Dominic Frimpong over the armed robbery attack on his team bus which led to his death.
GFA extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late footballer, his teammates, technical staff, management, and all at Berekum Chelsea.
The Ghana football governing body stated that:
“This tragic incident is not only a huge loss to Berekum Chelsea but also to Ghana football as a whole. Dominic was a promising young talent whose dedication and passion for the game embodied the spirit of our league.”
