Momentum continues to build around the Gateway International Airport as Air Peace, led by CEO Allen Onyema, has announced plans to commence international flight operations from Ogun State to London this summer.
The news gained more credence as the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, shared a video of Onyema declaring the plan of his organisation via his social media handle.
The move marks a major milestone for Ogun State’s aviation ambitions, positioning the airport as a key departure point for international travel.
Alongside passenger flights, cargo operations are also set to begin, with expectations of additional global airline partnerships in the near future.

He confirmed that Air Peace will operate flights to both London Gatwick and Heathrow airports, describing the move as a major milestone for Ogun State’s aviation sector.
The air flight boss praised the Gateway International Airport as “one of the best-equipped in Sub-Saharan Africa,” highlighting its 4-kilometre runway capable of accommodating large aircraft such as the Airbus A380.
Air Peace plans to deploy its Boeing 777 fleet on the London route.

Ogun State targets aviation, logistics, and business hub status
The planned launch of international flights and cargo services aligns with Ogun State’s broader vision to transform the Gateway International Airport into a leading aviation and logistics hub in Nigeria and West Africa.
Authorities are also preparing to roll out the state-owned Gateway Airlines, further strengthening the region’s air transport capacity. Complementary projects—including a conference centre and a five-star hotel—are already underway to support business travel, tourism, and investment.
With world-class infrastructure in place, stakeholders remain confident that the airport will unlock new opportunities for trade, economic growth, and regional connectivity.
