Ahead of the 2027 elections, fresh cracks have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State following the endorsement of the late former president Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf, for a House of Representatives seat.
At a stakeholders’ meeting in Sandamu Local Government Area in Katsina State, some party leaders announced Yusuf as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency, Daily Trust reports.
The local government chairman, Usman Na Lado, described the move as a collective decision aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

He explained that Yusuf’s candidacy was deemed right judging by his perceived capacity and acceptance among party stakeholders.
Stakeholders reject Yusuf Buhari’s imposition claims
The endorsement of Yusuf Buhari has triggered resistance among other APC stakeholders across the Daura Emirate. Representatives from five local government areas, Zango, Baure, Mai’adua, Sandamu, and Daura, have rejected what they described as an attempt to impose candidates.
At a separate meeting, a group of party leaders accused certain officeholders of acting unilaterally and misleading the public by linking the endorsement to the Katsina State governor, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda.
Barrister Usman Ahmed El-Marzuk, a former APC national legal adviser in Daura, dismissed the claims, insisting the governor has not approved any candidate.
He stated that each constituency retains the right to decide its representatives through due process.
Council chairman endorses Tinubu ahead of 2027 elections
The council chairman, Usman Na Lado, at the meeting with stakeholders reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
He also declared his support for the current governor, Dikko Umar Radda, as the party’s flag bearer. For the Daura senatorial seat, he endorsed Nasiru Yahaya Daura.
Yusuf Buhari is the only son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari who ruled the country between 2015-2023. His mother is Aisha Buhari.
